OL2000: Folder in Removed PST Still Shows in the Most Recently Used Folders List (222204)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q222204

SYMPTOMS

When you move an item to another folder by selecting a folder from the Most Recently Used (MRU) list, the item may seem to disappear.

CAUSE

The Personal Folders (.pst) file which contained the target folder has been closed and no longer appears in your Folder List.

RESOLUTION

Open the closed .pst file to recover the moved item. If the.pst file is no longer needed, delete it to keep from accidentally moving items to it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Moving an item to a folder contained in a .pst file records the folder's name in the MRU list. If you subsequently close the .pst file, the folder's name remains on the MRU list. If you again select the folder's name from the MRU list to move another item, the item is moved to that folder in the closed .pst file, and will seem to disappear since the folder is no longer displayed in your Folder List.
