SYMPTOMS

When you use your computer, you may experience the following Find-related symptoms:
  • When you click Start, and then point to Find, the "Files or Folders" and "Computer" commands may be missing.
  • When you right-click Network Neighborhood, the "Find Computer" command may be missing if a 32-bit network client is not installed on your computer.
  • When you right-click My Computer, the "Find" command may be missing.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a registry key is damaged or contains an incorrect value.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to verify that the registry key listed below has the value listed, and if needed, edit the value to match the value listed:
Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\FindExtensions\ShellFind

This registry key should contain the following value and value data:

Value: Default
Value data: {61E218E0-65D3-101B-9F08-061CEAC3D50D}

Note that the "Find" command may also be missing from the Start menu if policy restrictions are in effect for the local user's Start menu.
