Homepub Err Msg: Something Is Missing... Internet Explorer 4.01 (221995)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
Something is missing.

To locate the missing piece, close all open programs, restart your computer, and then run Setup again.
When you click More Info, you receive the following error message:
Your Microsoft Home Publishing is not properly set up. The following components are either missing or need a newer version installed.

Internet Explorer 4.01
NOTE: Internet Explorer 4.01 may be installed on your computer and functioning properly. Reinstalling Internet Explorer does not resolve this issue.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if one or more of the files installed by Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is missing or damaged.

NOTE: In Greetings 99 and Home Publishing 99, both e-mail projects and online Help use files installed by Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method for your operating system.

Microsoft Windows 95

  1. Quit all programs running on your computer.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Greetings or Microsoft Home Publishing, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. Click Remove All. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.
  6. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  7. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  8. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, and then click Add/Remove.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Internet Explorer 4.0. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.
  10. Reinstall Greetings 99 or Home Publishing 99. When you are prompted to install Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1, click OK.

Microsoft Windows 98

Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 is an integrated part of Windows 98 and cannot be run separately. To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
  • Run the System File Checker utility to verify the integrity of your operating system files.

  • Reinstall Windows 98 to replace any missing or damaged files.
