XL2000: PivotChart Data Labels Lost When Published Interactively (221245)

SYMPTOMS

A PivotChart which has data labels displayed may have some or all of the labels missing when viewed in a Web browser.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You create a PivotChart with multiple series.

    -and-

  • The PivotChart shows data labels.

    -and-

  • The legend, when visible, shows numeric labels.

    -and-

  • The legend labels are derived from cells that are formatted as Accounting in the PivotTable.

    -and-

  • The PivotChart is published as a Web page with interactivity.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem, follow these steps:
  1. On the PivotTable sheet, select the cell below the Column Field label, right-click that cell, and click Field Settings.
  2. Click Number.
  3. In the Format Cells dialog box, click Currency under Category. Click one of the top two items under Negative numbers, and then click OK.
  4. Click OK to dismiss the PivotTable Field dialog box.
  5. Republish the PivotChart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When the number format of the series labels is Accounting, and you change that to the Number format, the data labels may still be missing when published. Under other conditions, the Number format does not display this problem. If you change the format to General, and then change the format to Number, the problem does not occur.

The problems described in this article also do not occur under the following conditions:
  • If you publish standard charts with interactivity.

    -or-

  • If you publish PivotCharts as Web pages without interactivity, or save them as HTML formatted files.
