SYMPTOMS

The Channel bar may not be displayed on the desktop, and when you click View Channels on the Quick Launch toolbar, you may receive the following error message:
This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your System Administrator.

CAUSE

Your installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer may have been modified using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit to prevent channels from being displayed.

RESOLUTION

NOTE: If you are using a customized version of Internet Explorer, packaged by your network system administrator, please contact your system administrator before you use the following steps.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To remove the restrictions, use Registry Editor to change the data value of the "NoChannelUI" value to 0 in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\InfoDelivery\Restrictions

MORE INFORMATION

These restrictions are stored in the registry. Unless they are manually removed, they still apply even if Internet Explorer 4.01 or later is reinstalled.
