Media Player May Stop Streaming Prematurely (220887)

SYMPTOMS

NetShow client applications, such as Microsoft Media Player, may stop streaming large files prematurely.

CAUSE

The PLAY_TIMEOUT_EVENT timer misfires early in some cases, causing an STREAM_EVENT_STOP event to be generated internally in the player before the end of the stream is actually reached.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next service pack.
