WD2000: Inserted Image Is Resized, Appears Distorted (220515)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q220515

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a GIF image in a Web page in Microsoft Word 2000, the image is smaller than its original size and may appear distorted. If you attempt to resize it to 100 percent, the image remains distorted.

CAUSE

Although you inserted the image in a Web page, Word resizes the image to fit within the printable area of the document--in other words, the area between the left and right margins.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Method 1: Change the Page Size Before Inserting the Image

Change the page size before you insert the image. For example, increase the page size, change the page orientation, or reduce the margins, and then insert the image.

Method 2: Use an Image Editing Program to Resize the Original Image

Edit the image by using an image editing program. After making your changes, insert the image. It should be inserted at the correct size.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
