FP2000: Error Message When You Hold CTRL and Click Link in Page View (219225)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This article was previously published under Q219225

SYMPTOMS

When you create a link to a Web page that was created by an ISAPI .dll file, or any other CGI script, FrontPage cannot follow the link when you hold CTRL and click the link. You receive the following error message:
The file "url of cgi" is not found.
where url of cgi is the location of the ISAPI .dll file or CGI file.

CAUSE

Because these files are executed by the Web server, FrontPage cannot open them.

RESOLUTION

Do not try to follow a link to a page that is generated by an ISAPI .dll file or CGI script.

The URLs mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of the article are recognized by the following:
  • A CGI file has a .cgi extension instead of .htm or .html. An ISAPI .dll file has the .dll extension.
  • Web pages that are generated by these server side programs are recognized by the parameters that are used in the URL. Because of these parameters, the URL may look similar to the following:
    http://www.examplewebsite.com/cgi-bin/display.cgi?action=topics&forum=Software&number=15&DaysPrune=1&LastLogin=
