SYMPTOMS

When you save a file as PostScript from Microsoft Publisher, you may receive the following error:
An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program click Close. You will lose information you entered since your last save.
When you click Close, you will receive the following error:
MSPUB caused a general protection fault in module ADOBEPS4.DRV

CAUSE

This error occurs when you attempt to save a publication as a PostScript file, and the publication contains a WordArt object using pattern fills.

Specifically, this behavior has been reported to affect older Adobe PostScript drivers, particularly those that ship with Adobe Acrobat Distiller 3.0 for Windows 95.

NOTE: The problem has also been reproduced in Windows 98 using these drivers.

When Publisher sends pattern fills to the driver, the Adobe driver incorrectly interprets the information and this conflicts with Publisher. This behavior does not occur in Publisher when using other PostScript drivers, and has not been reported to occur in other applications using the Adobe drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must download a more recent version of your Adobe PostScript driver.

Alternatively, you can install the Apple LaserWriter printer driver. It is included on the Windows installation CD-ROM.

To install new print drivers, on the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Printers. Double-click the Add Printer icon, and follow the prompts given by the wizard. When you receive the initial error, click Ignore instead of Close. If you ignore the initial error several times, the print job will complete successfully. This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Publisher version 2000 and Adobe Acrobat Distiller version 3.0 for Windows 9X.
