PUB2000: Unwanted Gaps in Publication When Printing Banners (218729)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a banner from Microsoft Publisher, you may notice unwanted gaps between pages. These gaps usually range between .25" and .5", depending on your printer. These gaps appear even if the Gap is set to zero in the Tile Printing Options. No matter how you overlap the tiles of your banner, your banner tiles will not fit together properly.

CAUSE

The Gap set in the Tile Printing Options is smaller than the nonprintable region of your printer.

RESOLUTION

Add the width of your nonprintable region to the Gap set in the Tile Printing Options. You can determine the width of your printers nonprintable region using the following method.
  1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and click WordPad.
  2. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
  3. Set the Left margin text box to zero.
  4. Repeat the previous step for the Right, Top, and Bottom margins.
  5. Click OK.
  6. On the File menu, click Page Setup and note the new margin settings.
NOTE: The margins will automatically be reset to the minimum margin supported by the Windows printer driver.

NOTE: Publisher will round up if the number is in thousandths of an inch.

After you have determined the nonprintable region of your printer, add it to the Gap in Publisher.
  1. Open your publication. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click Tile Printing Options.
  3. In the Overlap Tiles By window, increase the listed number by at least as much as your nonprintable region. For example, if you wanted .25" of overlap, and your nonprintable region was also .25", set the Overlap Tiles By to .50"

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Publisher 2000.
