PUB2000: Words Marked as Ignore Re-Marked as Misspelled When Editing Text (218719)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q218719

SYMPTOMS

When you edit text in Microsoft Publisher, words that you have previously asked the spelling checker to ignore may be marked as misspelled again.

CAUSE

When you run the spelling checker, you are given the option to ignore words. This removes the wavy red line that indicates that the word is misspelled. However, when you edit text in close proximity to these ignored words, all surrounding text is re-checked for spelling errors. Previously ignored words will be re-flagged as misspelled.

WORKAROUND

If you commonly use a word that is marked as misspelled, you can add it to your custom dictionary. To do so, when you run the spelling checker, click Add instead of Ignore. Then the word will no longer be flagged as misspelled in your publications.

Alternatively, rerun the spelling checker after you have finished editing your documents, and ignore all of the words that have been flagged as misspelled.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Publisher 2000.
