OL2000: Shorthand Date Gives Warning Message in Flag Entry (218396)

SYMPTOMS

If you enter a shorthand date value greater than 12 into the Due by field of a message flag, you will receive the following warning message:

You must specify a valid date and time. Check that what you typed is both a valid date and a valid time, and make any necessary corrections.

Enter a valid date and time.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you enter a shorthand date value between 1 and 31 into the Due by field of a message flag, it should resolve to that day of the current month. However, if you enter any value greater than 12, you will receive the warning message described above.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Open a message in Outlook.
  2. On the Actions menu, click Flag for Follow Up.
  3. In the Due by window, enter a value of 5.

    The value resolves to that day of the current month, or "March 05, 1999" assuming the current month is March and the current year is 1999.
  4. In the Due by window type a value of 13.
Results: The warning message described earlier in this article is displayed.
