OL2000: (CW) Run Rules Now Does Not Work with MSMail Shared Folders (218351)

NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you see "Corporate or Workgroup".

SYMPTOMS

When you click Run Now after selecting a rule in the Rules Wizard, you get the following error message:
There was an error running rules. Not all messages were processed

CAUSE

You were attempting to run the rule while the focus was set to a folder in the Microsoft Mail Shared Folders.

NOTE: While you can run rules to move items to shared folders you can not run a rule on the Shared folder. You will get the above error message.

RESOLUTION

Change the focus to a folder outside of the Microsoft Mail Shared Folders, such as your default Inbox. You can then run the rule successfully.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This error gives the impression that you can't run rules on Microsoft Mail Shared Folders. The error will only occur if your focus (the currently selected folder), is a folder in the Microsoft Mail Shared Folders.
