The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
  • Microsoft Outlook 2002
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q218305

SYMPTOMS

You may lose contact links when you drag an appointment to another item. The behavior depends on the destination-item type.

RESOLUTION

For items other than Journal items, you must establish the contact link manually.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The following are examples of how contact linking behaves when you drag an appointment, containing a link to a contact, to another type of item folder.

Task Folder

If you have an appointment that is linked to a contact, and drag the appointment to your Task folder, the new task item does not inherit the contact link.

Inbox Folder

If you drag the appointment to your Inbox, and then in the newly created message click Options on the View menu, you will see that the Contact field is blank.

Notes Folder

If you drag the appointment to your Notes folder, the Contact field on the new Note is empty.

Journal Folder

If you follow the same procedure, but drag the appointment to your Journal folder, the new Journal item does inherit the contact link from the appointment.

As you can see by the above examples, only Journal items inherit the contact link from the appointment.
