Cannot Create Groups over 20 Characters (218089)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q218089 SYMPTOMS
When you enter a group name using the Manage Users and Groups taskpad under the BackOffice Server Manager console, a group cannot be created with more than 20 characters. However, User Manager for Domains allows the creation of group names in excess of 20 characters.
CAUSE
In User Manager, a local group can have a name longer than 20 characters, but a global group is limited to 20 characters. The Add a Group Wizard asks for a group name first, so it does not yet know what kind of group is being created.
RESOLUTION
To create a group of more than 20 characters, use User Manager for Domains.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
