XL97: Cannot Save Workbook After Network Connection Failure or If Cluster Server Resource Group Moved (216833)

SYMPTOMS

If you disconnect from a network drive that contains a workbook that you are editing

-or-

initiate a failure on one of the nodes on a Microsoft cluster server that contains the Excel workbook that you are editing, the cluster server flips or changes resources to the other node.

It is impossible to save the Excel workbook either locally or to the server after the network connection is restored to the active node on a Microsoft cluster server. You receive the following error message:
Document not saved.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Excel workbook meets one of the following conditions:
  1. The file contains a PivotTable.The file contains any VBE code.The file contains an embedded OLE object, such as ClipArt.
  2. The file contains any VBE code.The file contains an embedded OLE object, such as ClipArt.
  3. The file contains an embedded OLE object, such as ClipArt.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
