SBS: Failed Fax Job Cannot Be Deleted from Client or MSC (216066)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0a

This article was previously published under Q216066

SYMPTOMS

If a fax job fails to complete, it is left in the spooler in a status of Retrying and cannot be deleted by the client workstation that submitted it or from the Manage Faxes portion of the Manage Server Console. The job can only be deleted from the fax printer queue on the server.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Set up the fax server on a line that requires dialing 9 to get an outside line.
  2. In the Fax Send utility, compose a fax and, on the first screen, click to select the Dial as Entered check box, which will cause the job to be sent without a 9 and will fail.
  3. Try to cancel the job from the fax client or from the servers "Manager Server Console"

RESOLUTION

Small Business Server 4.0 and 4.0a

To work around this problem, perform the following at the Small Business Server computer:
  1. Click Start, click Settings, click Printers, and then double-click Fax.
  2. Select the failed job.
  3. On the Document menu, click Cancel.

Small Business Server 4.5

This problem has been fixed in SBS 4.5, and failed jobs can be deleted at the client workstations or from Manage Faxes in the Manage Server Console.
