XL2000: Placeholder Remains After Canceling Clip Gallery (215163)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q215163

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to insert a Microsoft Clip Gallery object in your spreadsheet and then cancel the process, an empty placeholder object remains on your screen. This behavior is different than if you point to Picture on the Insert menu and then click ClipArt to insert a picture.

Note that this happens with other objects, such as the Wave Sound or Video Clip object. In this case, you will see a Wave Sound or Video Clip icon on your screen.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the server application creates the placeholder object as it is opening. This object remains on your screen even if you close the server application without selecting a file.

RESOLUTION

If you decide you do not want the object, select the object and then press DELETE.
