CAUSE

The ScanJet button manager (filename hpsjbmgr.exe) is a TSR that Hewlett-Packard installs with many of its ScanJet scanner drivers. It enables the customer to scan by pressing a green button on the scanner hardware.

According to HP, "The HP ScanJet Button Manager... has the potential to conflict with certain programs at random." This may happen even if you are not scanning from a Hewlett-Packard scanner.
