Error Message with HP Printer and Iomega Zip Drive (214501)

SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer you may receive a Windows Protection error message at the Windows logo screen.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you have a Hewlett-Packard (HP) 4000 or 8000 series printer that is attached to an Iomega Zip drive, and the Iomega Zip drive is attached to the parallel port.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, disable bi-directional support in your computer's CMOS settings or in the properties of your printer. For information about how to disable bi-directional support in your computer's CMOS settings, view the documentation included with your computer or motherboard, or contact the manufacturer of your computer. To disable bi-directional support in the properties of your printer:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP 4000 printer, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Details tab, click Spool Settings, click Disable bi-directional support for this printer, click OK, and then click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
