XL2000: Insert and Delete Methods of Characters Class May Fail (213559)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Insert method of the Characters class to insert more than 255 characters, the following symptoms may occur:

  • You receive the following error message:
    Run-time error '1004':
    Insert method of Characters class failed
    -or-

  • The Insert method fails to insert more than 255 characters.
NOTE: When you use the Delete method to delete more than 255 characters, similar symptoms occur.

CAUSE

The number of characters that you can insert or delete using the Insert or Delete methods of the Character class is limited to 255.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
