XL2000: Wrong Values Displayed for Calculated Item in PivotTable (211703)

SYMPTOMS

When you manually edit a formula for a calculated item in a PivotTable, the formula may return incorrect results.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when all of the following conditions are true:
  • The PivotTable contains one or more page fields.

    -and-
  • You add a calculated item to the PivotTable.

    -and-
  • You select one of the items (other than (All)) in the page field drop-down list.

    -and-
  • You manually edit the formula for the calculated item.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods to edit the formula for the calculated item.

Method 1

Use the Insert Calculated Item in field dialog box to edit the formula for the calculated item. To do this, follow these steps.
  1. On the PivotTable toolbar, click PivotTable, point to Formulas, and then click Calculated Item.
  2. In the Name box, click the calculated item for which you want to change the formula.
  3. In the Formula box, edit the formula.
  4. To use the data from a item in the formula, click the field in the Fields list, and then click Insert Item.

    You can include only items from the same field in which you are creating the calculated item.
  5. Click Modify, and then click OK.

Method 2

In the Page list, click to select (All) before you edit the formula for the calculated item.
