XL2000: Linked Picture of Cells Changes Size with Print Quality (211633)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q211633

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 2000, when you print or view a worksheet in Print Preview, and the worksheet contains a linked pasted picture, the output may be a different size than the size that you expect.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You copy cells and paste them as a picture that is linked to the copied cells.

    -and-
  • The printer that you are using has a default resolution other than 300 dots per inch (dpi).

    -and-
  • You change the resolution of the printer to a setting other than the default print quality for that printer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, paste the cells as a picture that is not linked to the cells. This issue is likely to occur only on printers with default resolutions that are greater than 300 dpi, or on printers with resolutions that are not based on 300 and 150 dpi.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If the default resolution of the printer is 600 dpi, and you change the resolution to 1200 dpi (if this setting is available for the printer), the printed picture may increase in size and be truncated. If you change the resolution to 300 dpi, the printed picture may be smaller.
