XL2000: Cannot Drag Drawing Objects onto Windows Desktop (211554)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q211554

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to use a drag-and-drop operation to move or copy an AutoShape or drawing object onto the Windows desktop, the pointer changes to a circle with a diagonal line through it, and the drawing object does not appear on the desktop.

This functionality is different from Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0 in which you can drag a drawing object from a worksheet and place it on the Windows desktop. When placing a drawing object on the Windows desktop in this way, a "scrap" file is created.

CAUSE

This functionality is not available in Microsoft Excel 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
