SYMPTOMS

If you assign a shortcut key combination to a macro in Microsoft Word and then add the macro to a menu or toolbar, the shortcut key assignment does not appear on the menu or toolbar.

WORKAROUND

When you create a custom macro with an assigned shortcut key, follow these steps to place the macro and its shortcut key assignment on a menu or toolbar:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize. On the Commands tab, under Categories, select Macros.
  2. Under Commands, find your macro and drag it to a menu or toolbar.
  3. Click Modify Selection, click in the Name box, and then, if necessary, change the name of the macro. Following the name of the macro, type the shortcut key assignment.
  4. Click Close in the Customize dialog box.

MORE INFORMATION

Any built-in Word commands that display shortcut keys on menus or in-screen tips automatically show key assignments when they are customized on toolbars or menus.
