Problems with Norton Utilities Version 3.0 and Windows 2000 (211017)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 95-based computer running Norton Utilities for Windows 95 version 3.0 to Windows 2000, the following tools may appear on the Incompatibility list:
  • Norton Disk Doctor
  • Norton Image Disk
  • Norton Registry Tracker
  • Norton Speed Disk
  • System Information
With the exception of the System Information tool, none of the shortcuts for these tools are removed from the Start menu after you upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional. When you try to start a program included with Norton Utilities, you may receive a "Missing Entry Point in KERNEL32.DLL" error message. Also, the following programs may not work correctly or at all, and may generate the following associated error messages or symptoms:

Space Wizard

This program is designed for Windows 95 and will not run on your current operating system. Please install Windows 95 and restart your computer in that mode.

Speed Disk

This program is designed for Windows 95 and will not run on your current operating system. Please install Windows 95 or restart your computer in that mode.

Norton Optimize Wizard

Create Process failed: 00000002.

Norton Disk Doctor

Could not load NDDENGNT.DLL.

UnErase Wizard

Norton UnErase Protection Service could not be loaded.

Rescue Disk

This version of Rescue Disk cannot be run under Windows NT.

Norton Protected Trash Bin

The Norton Protected Trash Bin icon may appear distorted.

To resolve this issue, contact Symantec to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.
