Insufficient File Handles Error Message Running WordPerfect for DOS (210887)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start the Corel WordPerfect for DOS version 6.0 program after you upgrade to Windows 2000, you may receive the following error message:

Insufficent file handles, MINIMUM of FILES = 25 required

CAUSE

This issue can occur because WordPerfect for DOS version 6.0 does not correctly request file handles from Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Corel to inquire aobut the availability of a fix for this issue.

To work around this issue, use a text editor (such as Notepad) to edit the Config.dos file, add the following lines, save the file and then restart your computer:

dos=high, umb
device=%systemroot%\system32\himem.sys
files=50

In Windows 2000, the Config.nt file contains the following lines by default:

dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=40
				


In Windows 2000, the Autoexec.nt file contains the following lines by default:
