The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q210563

SYMPTOMS

You cannot add or remove a button on the Function Key Display toolbar.

To view the Function Key Display toolbar, do the following:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Toolbars tab.
  2. In the list of Toolbars, click to select the Function Key Display check box.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. Because the Function Key Display toolbar's purpose is to provide information about the functionality of the keyboard function keys, the toolbar cannot be modified.

MORE INFORMATION

Word 2000 includes a new Function Key Display toolbar to provide information about the functionality of the keyboard function keys. Buttons on the Function Key Display toolbar have different functions when you use them in combination with keys such as CTRL, ALT, and SHIFT on a keyboard - just as the keys on the keyboard have different functions when you press them in combination with CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT. When the Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) is active and the Function Key Display toolbar is showing, the Function Key Display toolbar shows functions specific to Japanese text entry, such as conversion to katakana and half-width text.
