PRJ98: Costs Not Updated When Replacing Resource Assigned to a Task (209117)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q209117

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you replace a resource assigned to a task with a different resource, the costs for the resource assignment may not be updated with the new resource's cost information.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur in the Task Form view or a Usage view, when you change a resource assigned to a task by replacing the name of an assigned resource with a different resource.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, save the project, close the project and then reopen the project. The values will be displayed correctly.

To avoid this behavior, change the assignment in the Resource Name field, on the Resources tab in the Task Information dialog box, or use Replace in the Assign Resources dialog box.

NOTE: This will remove the original baseline information for the assignment you are replacing.

STATUS

"Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this article.
"

MORE INFORMATION

You would want to change a resource assignment by changing the assignment name because this preserves the current assignment's baseline information. If you remove the existing assignment and then replace it with another assignment, Microsoft Project correctly calculates the assignment costs, but loses the assignment baseline details.
