NetMeeting Only Uses COM1 and COM2 for Null Modem-Based Calls (207203)

SYMPTOMS

When you are using NetMeeting to place and receive null modem-based calls, you cannot change the COM port to anything other than 1 or 2. When you try to do so, you may receive the following error message:
You cannot set the properties of this communication port while it is in use.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because NetMeeting can only use COM1 and COM2 to place and receive null modem-based calls.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, only use COM1 and COM2 to place and receive null modem-based calls.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
