WD2001: Formula Calculation Using the 0.00% Format Produces Incorrect Results (206123)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q206123

SYMPTOMS

When you enter a calculation using the 0.00% format, you may receive incorrect results. For example, the formula {=4/2 \# "0.00%"} gives a result of 2.00% rather than the expected 200%.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, avoid using percent (%) formats in your formula. Instead, use the basic number (0) format combined with a simple calculation to determine percentages, and then add the percent symbol after your formula.

For example, to enter a formula to produce the percent difference between x and y, use the calculation (x/y)*100 in your formula.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Word 2001.
  2. On the Table menu, click Formula.
  3. In the Formula box, type =(4/2)*100.
  4. In the Number Format list, click 0, and then click OK.
  5. Press the percent (%) key.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2001 Macintosh Edition.
