Symbios Logic 53C416 SCSI Adapter Does Not Work after Upgrade (205866)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows version 3.1x-based computer to Windows 98, your Hewlett Packard 4C scanner connected to a Symbios Logic 53C416 Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) adapter may not work. Also, this SCSI adapter may be incorrectly listed as the following device in Device Manager under the "Other Devices" category:
?!  SYM 53C416
				

CAUSE

This issue can occur because Windows 98 Setup does not detect this adapter correctly when you upgrade a Windows version 3.1x-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Device Manager tab, double-click the Other Devices branch to expand it, and then click SYM 53C416.
  2. Click Properties, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
  3. Click Search for a better driver, insert disk 1 containing your DeskScan II Setup files into your floppy disk drive, click this drive in the Look In box, and then click OK.
  4. Restart your computer. When your scanner is detected and you are prompted to provide drivers, insert disk 1 containing your DeskScan II Setup files into your floppy disk drive, click this drive in the Look In box, click OK, and then restart your computer.
