SYMPTOMS

In a Web browser, when you view a page created in FrontPage, and attempt to use a custom image map or a browse-time FrontPage component, you receive an error message similar to the following:
file:<driveletter>/<Web|content|directory>/myWeb/_vti_bin/ shtml.exe/mypage.htm/ could not be found.

-or-

In Internet Explorer 5, you receive the following message:
The page cannot be displayed.
And, the following error message appears at the bottom of the page in:
Cannot find server or DNS Error. Internet Explorer.
NOTE: The actual message may vary based on the web browser you use.

NOTE: Browse-time FrontPage components include the Confirmation Field, Discussion Form Handler, Registration Form Handler, Save Results Form Handler or the Search Form. Browse-time FrontPage components include the Confirmation Field component, the Discussion component, the Registration Component, the Save Results component, and the Search component.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you view the FrontPage Web page using a file location rather than a Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP) Uniform Resource Locator (URL) if the Web page contains a browse-time FrontPage component. HTTP is required to access the server extensions to allow the FrontPage components to run.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use HTTP to view the page. To do this, start the Web browser and type the URL of the page by using the following syntax:

http://myserver/myWeb/mypage.htm
