This article was previously published under Q204552

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Web page document (.html file) as a Microsoft Word document (.doc file), and the document contains linked frames, you may receive the following error message:
Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected.
Try one or more of the following:
*Free more memory.
*Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected, or damaged.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the document contains frames that are linked to read-only documents or locations.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, remove the Link to file option for all frames. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Word, open the Web document.
  2. Right-click each frame, and then click Frame Properties.
  3. On the Frame tab, in the Frame Properties dialog box, click Link to file to remove the link to the associated page.
