XL97: Modules.Count Method Always Returns 0 (201324)

SYMPTOMS

When you run a macro that counts the number of modules in the active workbook the macro always returns a count of zero (0).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when your macro uses the Count property of the Modules collection.

The Modules collection is present in Microsoft Excel 97 for backward compatibility with earlier versions. However, the Count property of the Modules collection only counts Excel 5.0 and Excel 7.0 module sheets. It does not count new module sheets in the Visual Basic Editor in Excel 97. The new collection for this purpose is VBComponents.

To count the modules in your Visual Basic Project, use the following sample macro: 
   Sub CountModules()
   x = ThisWorkbook.VBProject.VBComponents.Count
   y = 0
   For ctr = 1 To x
      If ThisWorkbook.VBProject.VBComponents(ctr).Type = 1 Then
         y = y + 1
      End If
   Next ctr
   MsgBox "Module count is " & y
   End Sub
