PRB: Cannot Set the Application Root for This Web Application (201140)

SYMPTOMS

Creating a Web project on a server with FrontPage 2000 Extensions returns the following error:
Cannot set the application root for this Web application. Server error: Cannot mark a folder executable on this server.

CAUSE

The folder security model is changed by FrontPage 2000 Extensions.

RESOLUTION

Use the following steps to solve this problem:
  1. Using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), select Server Extensions Administration.
  2. Click Properties for your server.
  3. Select the Allow Authors to Upload Executables option.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
