PRJ: Crosstab Report Filters Applied to Tasks and Resources (199648)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q199648

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you print or print preview a crosstab report and the And Task Assignments or And Resource Assignments options are selected, related task assignments or resource assignments may not be displayed.

For example, if you print preview a crosstab report that displays resources and the associated task assignments, and you apply the Resource Range filter to the report, only the resources are displayed; the associated assignments are not.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you apply a task or resource filter to a crosstab report. Only the tasks or resources and the associated assignments that fit the criteria of the filter are displayed, regardless of the And Task Assignments or And Resource Assignments setting.

For example, if you apply the Resource Range filter to a crosstab report, only the resources that match the resource ID values entered for the filter are displayed. Task assignments are not displayed because the assignments do not have resource ID numbers, and therefore do not match the criteria of the filter. This behavior is by design of Microsoft Project.

WORKAROUND

To view filtered resources or tasks and view the related assignments, use either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click either Task Usage or Resource Usage (Click Task Usage if you want to view tasks with resource assignments or Resource Usage if you want to view resources with task assignments.)
  2. On the Project menu, point to Filtered For, and then click More Filters.
  3. Click to select the filter you want to use and click Edit.
  4. Add the following line to the filter and click OK.
    And/OrField NameTestValue(s)
    AndAssignmentequalsNo

  5. Click the filter you want to apply, and then click Apply.
  6. Click a column heading such as Task Name or Resource Name, whichever is applicable.
  7. On the Project menu, point to Outline, and then click Hide Assignments or Show Assignments as appropriate.
  8. Repeat step 7.
