SYMPTOMS

When you run the BackOffice Small Business Server Internet Connection Wizard, the Domain Name Service (DNS) configuration section of the hardware configuration page only accepts an IP address for DNS servers. Typing the Fully Qualified Domain name (FQDN) of the server does not work.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because DNS converts the FQDN to IP addresses and the IP address of the DNS server must be known. The client must know which IP address to use when directing IP communications. If the client only has the FQDN of the DNS server, the client cannot determine where to send directed queries.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the IP address of the DNS server.
