Shading May Print As Black Printing to Fax Printer (198655)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0a

This article was previously published under Q198655

SYMPTOMS

If you add shading to a Microsoft Word document or other document, no matter what percentage is selected, it may appear as black when received at the fax destination if sent by using the Small Business Fax Server Service.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by the Intensity level for the fax printer being set to its default value. This default value does not take shading into consideration.

RESOLUTION

A workaround for this problem is to change the Intensity setting on the Printer Properties page for the fax printer on the client workstation. Select the Graphics tab of the Printer Properties setting, and change the value for Intensity to 125 or more until the shading is the desired tint.
