FIX: RDS 2.0 Client Cannot SubmitChanges to RDS 1.5 Server (198531)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Data Access Components 1.5
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.0
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1 SP2
This article was previously published under Q198531 SYMPTOMS When submitting changes using the SubmitChanges of the
RDS.DataControl or the RDSServer.DataFactory the user may see the following
error message: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access 97
Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file
'C:\WINDOWS\system32'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you
need permission to view its data. NOTE: The above error is for Access databases ONLY. The problem may
occur with other databases, with different error messages. Also
note: This problem only occurs on the SubmitChanges. Querying the database does
not cause the above error. If you are receiving an error querying a database,
see the "References" section for additional articles that may help.
CAUSE One cause of this problem is the client has RDS 2.0
installed while the server has RDS 1.5 installed. There may be other causes to
this error message. This problem may also occur if permissions are not
correctly set.RESOLUTION This problem has been fixed in MDAC version 2.5
Upgrade the Server to the latest version of RDS. The most current version of
RDS should be able to handle clients of previous versions. It is not guaranteed
that newer clients can connect to older servers, however. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at
the beginning of this article.
This bug was corrected in Microsoft Data Access Components
version 2.5.
REFERENCES This problem may also occur if permissions are not
