FP2000: Form Field Name Is Overwritten If You Specify Field Validation (198225)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This article was previously published under Q198225

For a Microsoft FrontPage 98 version of this article, see 174427.

SYMPTOMS

When you apply validation to a form field, FrontPage overwrites the custom form field name that you entered for the form field.

CAUSE

When you apply field validation to a form field, FrontPage automatically assigns a predefined name to the form to ensure that the name being used is unique. These names are passed to the FrontPage Server Extensions at browse-time. Note that if you apply validation to a form field, you cannot assign a custom name to the form.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, set the scripting language to None. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Web that contains the page that uses form field validation.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Web Settings.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Default scripting language, in the Client list, select None.
  5. Click OK.
  6. If you are prompted to recalculate hyperlinks, click Yes.
