OL2000: Rule Continues to Remove Messages After Folder Deleted (197749)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q197749

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Rules Wizard to automatically move incoming messages to a certain folder and you then delete the folder, your rule may continue to process incoming messages by removing them from your Inbox.

CAUSE

When you deleted the folder it became a subfolder of the Deleted Items folder. The rule continues to move matching items to the new folder location, under the Deleted Items folder.

RESOLUTION

Delete the folder from its new location as a subfolder of the Deleted Items folder. This permanently deletes the folder and the rule will no longer function.

MORE INFORMATION

When you delete a folder in Outlook, the folder becomes a subfolder of the Deleted Items folder. The Rules Wizard automatically tracks the location of moved target folders; because the target folder is now a subfolder of the Deleted Items folder, the rule continues to move matching messages there.
