  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q197140

SYMPTOMS

If a file transfer from any client to a Windows 2000-based computer is stopped before the transfer is finished, you may see an incorrect file size listed for the file.

CAUSE

The full size of the file is reported instead of the actual amount that was transferred before the interruption. This reported disk space is physically unavailable until the file is deleted. For example, if a 1-megabyte (MB) transfer was started and the transfer was interrupted at 512 kilobytes (KB), Windows 2000 reports a file size of 1 MB.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the file copy it again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
