The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Index Server 2.0
  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q196295

SUMMARY

SQL Server 7.0 Installs OLED DB providers for Microsoft Index Server and Site Server. However, you will not be able to directly use the providers from a consumer such as ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) to perform a query without first installing Index Server or Site Server on the same machine.

MORE INFORMATION

After installing SQL Server 7.0 with a custom install and Full-text search option, you will see entries for OLED DB providers for Microsoft Index Server and Site Server in OLE DB Data Link dialog box. When using the Microsoft DataLink dialog box, you will find the following new entries:
  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Microsoft Index Server
  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Microsoft Site Server Search
However, you will not be able to directly use the providers from a consumer such as ADO to perform a query without first installing Index Server or Site Server on the same machine. SQL Server 7.0 does not install Index Server or Site Server.

You will need to install Index Server on the same machine as SQL Server 7.0 to perform distributed queries using Index Server provider. Index Server 2.0 can be installed from NT Option Pack 4.0
