OL2000: Marquee Tag Modified When Word Is Used as E-mail Editor (196262)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q196262

SYMPTOMS

If you use Word as your e-mail editor in Microsoft Outlook, and you reply to or you forward an HTML-formatted message that includes a marquee tag that has a direction set to up or to down, the up or the down information is removed. As a result, the marquee scrolls from right to left.

CAUSE

Word 2000 strips out the direction portion of the marquee tag when converting the HTML file to Word.

RESOLUTION

Do not use Word as your e-mail editor when you use marquee tags in HTML-formatted messages.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

The marquee tag supports direction attributes. For example:

<marquee direction=up>Text</marquee>

After using Word as your e-mail editor and forwarding or replying to an e-mail message that contains this tag, the HTML code is changed to the following:

<marquee>Text</marguee>

This problem also occurs in Word 2000 if you open and save documents with the HTML format.
