SYMPTOMS

Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) ships with Microsoft Exchange Server. Exchange Server includes the Internet Mail Service (IMS), which gives Small Business Server the capability of sending e-mail messages over the Internet.

During the installation of Exchange Server, the IMS is installed; however the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) type is not set. The MIME type setting defaults to U.S.; however, when the Internet Connection Wizard is used to sign up to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), the MIME type is set to the appropriate language for the location the server resides in by the Exsetapi.dll file.

If the SBS server's connection to the ISP is configured manually, it is possible that the MIME type may be set incorrectly for that server.

RESOLUTION

If the IMS is being configured manually to connect to the ISP, make sure that the MIME type is set correctly for the language used in that location.

To set the MIME type, do the following:
  1. Run the Exchange Server Administrator program.
  2. Open the Internet Mail Service property pages.
  3. Select the Internet Mail tab.
  4. The MIME settings should be visible, make necessary changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
