OL2000: (CW) How to Type a Fax Number on the To Line of a Mail Message (195716)

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SUMMARY

When using the Microsoft Fax service with Outlook 2000, it is possible to address new mail messages to both e-mail addresses and fax telephone numbers. You can manually type a recipient's fax number or select it from an address book if the entry already exists. If you manually type a fax telephone number, you must use the following format

   [Fax:xxxxx]
				


where xxxxx is the fax phone number of the recipient.

When addressing a mail message in Outlook, it is possible to manually type the recipients fax telephone number on the To line using the following steps:

  1. Click to slect the Inbox in the Folder List.
  2. On the Actions menu, click New Mail Message.
  3. On the To line type, "[Fax:xxxxx]" without the quotation marks and substituting xxxxx with the fax telephone number of the recipient)
  4. Enter the subject and the message you want to send.
  5. Click Send to send the fax.
NOTE: For the above steps to work, you must have the Microsoft Fax service as part of your current profile.

When you use the special format listed in step 3, Outlook will automatically instruct Microsoft Fax to process the message and send it as a fax.
