Query97: MS Query Fails Against Oracle Names Server (194911)

SYMPTOMS

When using MS Query 97 to access an Oracle server through Oracle Names Server, you get the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00000: normal, successful completion
This error prevents the user from connecting to their Oracle server.

CAUSE

Oracle Names Server has a stack space requirement that is beyond what is allocated by MS Query 97.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next version of Office, Office 2000, which contains a fixed version of MS Query that contains this hotfix.

STATUS
