MSPS: Cannot Listen to Voice Messages from a Remote Location (194729)

When you use the Microsoft Cordless Phone System to answer incoming
calls, you may be unable to listen to your voice messages from a remote
location.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you forget the remote access number for your
mailbox.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, create a new mailbox for your voice messages,
move your existing voice messages into this mailbox, and then delete
the old mailbox. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then
click Microsoft Call Manager.
- On the Mailbox Setup tab, click Main Greeting,
click Add, and then click Message Folder.
- In the Mailbox Name box, type a name for the new
mailbox.
- Click OK, and then quit Call Manager.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then
click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type msimn.exe,
and then click Find Now.
- In the list of found files, double-click the Msimn.exe
file.
- In the list of folders, click the mailbox folder that you want
to delete.
- In the list of messages, click and drag each message to the
new mailbox folder that you created in step 3.
- Right-click the mailbox folder that you want to delete, and
then click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the folder deletion,
click Yes.
- Quit Outlook Express.
- Close the Find: Files Named Msimn.exe window.
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then
click Microsoft Call Manager.
- On the Mailbox Setup tab, right-click the new mailbox,
and then click Properties.
- Click to select the Enable remote
retrieval of voice messages check box, and then
click Settings.
- Type a new remote access number in the New Access
Number box, and then type this number again in the Confirm
New Access Number box.
- Click OK, and then click OK again.
- Quit Call Manager.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.

This is a security feature designed to prevent unauthorized users from
gaining access to your voice messages remotely.
