PRB: Unable to Index Exchange Server Native Properties (194718)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q194718

SYMPTOMS

When you search a catalog configured to index Exchange Server public folders, you cannot retrieve documents based on specific, native Exchange Server properties. Adding the property information to the schema or DefineColumns.txt does not resolve the problem.

CAUSE

The Search filter used for indexing Microsoft Exchange Server public folders has been designed to allow only five native Exchange Server properties to be indexed. They are as follows:
  • MessageClass
Exchange message class. Identifies type of message, such as Note, Encrypted, Signed, Form, and so on.

  • MessageDisplayName
    Display name of the recipient.

  • MessageDisplayCC
Display name of the carbon copy recipient.

  • MessageFolderName
Name of the folder that the message was posted to.

  • MessageFolderPath
Path to the folder that the message was posted to.
This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The only other Exchange Server public folder information that Site Server Search is capable of indexing are the properties defined in custom Outlook forms. These properties can be added through the Catalog schema and DefineColumns.txt.
